The Summer Necklace Edit

The long and the 15" of it.

I’ve written many an Elsa Peretti inspired article. But the times they are a-changing. Meaning, summer is bringing around a whole new slew of jewelry silhouettes. And I, for one, could not be happier at the state of necklace offerings. This is the summer of statements. Pendant necklaces, cuff necklaces, beaded necklaces. So many necklaces. So many statements. So little storage space. (Now accepting jewelry box submissions. I’m currently using a bowl/plate from my local pottery studio and let’s just say it’s not serving me well.)

But there is one overarching theme I’ve noticed from my many online hours - we yearn for summer camp. From corded necklaces to shell pendants to hand-knotted beaded chokers, nostalgia has gripped our sticky popsicle-covered palms and pulled us back to the days of woven bracelets and afternoons on the lake. In a time when our lives are happening online, we will do anything to reimagine the simpler times of disposable cameras and card games on the bottom bunk. So, meet me at the picnic table on the water’s edge and I’ll get your gimp bracelet started for you. Don’t forget your sunscreen.

That’s not all though. To paraphrase Miranda Priestly, “Seashells for summer? Groundbreaking.” As expected as this motif may be, I love the natural materials that these necklaces bring to a look. Not to mention, a shell brings texture to an otherwise “basic” look.

Not to toot my own horn, but the pearls and shell stack instantly made me feel more elevated and less office. (Both are vintage. Here is an almost identical shell option.)

And a jewelry post would not be complete without vintage silver. So, there is plenty of that. A whole section in fact.
